Taal Lake, Philippines

Taal Lake is located on the beautiful island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is a unique lake as it is located in the crater of an active volcano of the same name. Although we cannot predict when the next volcanic eruption will occur, it is essential to keep in mind that the volcano is historically active. In the past, the area used to host three lakes, each with a distinctive color: one red, one yellow and one green. However, after a violent eruption in 1911, only the green water lake remained.

Boiling Lake, Dominican Republic

This lake is really dangerous due to the high temperature of its waters, which reach more than 90º Celsius. It is located in a beautiful mountainous area and emits jets of hot air from its bed. Sometimes, this hot air is even accompanied by lava, coming from the interior of the earth. It is not allowed to swim or enter this lake.

Lake Natron, Tanzania

In Tanzania, you can discover the fascinating Lake Natron, located in the Rift Valley. This amazing body of salt water is located in a remote area, and it is a real challenge to reach it. Its temperatures can reach up to 60 ° C, and its pH ranges between 9 and 10.5.

A special feature of this lake is its ability to petrify everything that comes into contact with its waters. Even birds that venture out to feed on its sparse fish population can end up fossilized. During certain times of the year, the lake takes on a vibrant red hue due to algae, giving it an even more striking appearance.

Abraham Lake, Canada

Located in the beautiful province of Alberta, Canada, it lies at the foot of the majestic Rocky Mountains. This region enjoys a cold climate for much of the year, resulting in breathtaking frozen landscapes. The most interesting thing about its waters is the presence of plants that generate bubbles. However, these bubbles contain gases such as methane, which is highly flammable, posing a challenge.

Lake Kawah Ijen, Indonesia

On the beautiful island of Java, lies the fascinating Lake Kawah Ijen, whose waters possess a surprisingly turquoise appearance. Located in the crater of an active volcano, it contains sulfuric acid in its waters. The volcano is constantly active and emits highly toxic gases. Sometimes, these vapors react with the air and create impressive flares that reach heights of more than 4 meters. For this reason, it is only allowed to visit the lake from a certain distance.
