The firm seeks a buyer for what remains of its service, after having fired more than 40% of its workforce in recent months. He points out that he hopes to use that money to solve the legal problems facing after the security incident that he suffered in October 2023 and affected almost 7 million users of the service. At present, the company has lost practically 98% of the value it had in October 2024, when it was applied at 6,000 million dollars.
But of course, this situation leaves many doubts about what will happen with the data collected by the company of more than 15 million users, who provided their DNA to carry out their genealogical study. If the company is finally sold, all this data will fall into the hands of a firm that users never gave permission to access their personal information.
