Surely you have noticed that, if you use Google Maps with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay as navigation system in your car, your mobile battery suffers and wears out very quickly.
Google Maps consumes a lot of battery when it is used as a navigator in the car
This is true not only when you use it via Bluetooth. Even when you connect the phone to charge it with the car cigarette lighter or any other system: not only does it not charge, but the battery is also draining.
To avoid this, you can follow some tips that help the battery does not suffer so much on long journeys. Keep them in mind, they are the following:
How to save battery when using Google Maps in Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Follow these tips to get your cell phone battery to at least make it to the end of your trip:
Turn on power saving mode on Android or iPhone.
Both Android and iPhone have the so-called “power saving modes” that allow some apps not to run in the background, to reduce the brightness of the screen and, in general, the mobile to save battery consumption. When you are using Google Maps in your car, as a navigator, setting the “power saving mode” is a good idea to prevent the battery from being consumed immediately.
To activate the “power saving” mode on Android, just go to the “Settings” section, tap on “Battery” and you will see the option to activate the “Power saving mode”.
On iPhone, what you can do is go to “Settings” and from there to “Battery” and “Low Power Mode”, where you can activate this option.
Some applications also have their own power saving mode, but if you do it from the mobile settings this will affect the entire operation of the device, not save battery in a single application.
Enable dark mode on your cell phone
Another option is to use Google Maps as a navigator by activating the “Dark Mode” of the cell phone. With this mode, you avoid the screen being always on and with a white background. By going dark, it avoids excessive battery consumption.
You can activate the dark mode for the entire cell phone in the settings options of the mobile phone… or you can activate it only on Google Maps, which also has its dark mode, by clicking on “Settings” in your account and accessing the “Dark Mode” section.
Control location permissions
If you want to use Google Maps as a GPS, you will of course need to give the app permissions for geolocation. However, instead of giving them so that they are enabled at all times, change the setting so that it only has permissions “when the app is in use”. This will reduce battery consumption considerably as well.
To do this, on iPhone go to the “Settings” section and there “Privacy & Security”, followed by “Location”. You will have to search for the name of the app – Google Maps – and activate the option “When using the app”.
For its part, on Android you will have to go to the “Settings” section and there to “Applications.” Locate Google Maps and go to “App permissions” and from there to “Location”. Now you will have to select “Allow only while using the application”.
Use Google Maps offline
Finally, you can use Google Maps offline, which saves battery and also reduces mobile data consumption by not having to be permanently connected consulting the map.
That said, some functionalities are reduced: for example, you will not receive real-time traffic alerts, nor tolls… although you will be able to see the roads, which is what really matters to you to reach your destination.
